European plastics industry and value chain present their commitments and pledges for a more sustainable plastics industry

On the 11th December 2018, 13 organisations from the entire plastics value chain hosted their first annual event “The EU Plastics Industries – Towards Circularity” and presented the status of their voluntary commitments and pledges in front of the media, NGOs and representatives of the European Commission.
 

16 European Providers of Public Services and SGI awarded with the CEEP CSR Label in Stockholm

Today, [on 11 December 2018], 16 enterprises providing public services and services of general interests have been awarded the CEEP CSR Label 2018-2019. The awarding ceremony was held in the premises of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR, member of CEEP Sweden) in Stockholm, and jointly organised by CEEP and CEEP Sweden. A compendium of practices from enterprises awarded was also circulated.

S&Ds: humanitarian visas would help stop many needless deaths

The European Parliament today backed calls for the creation of humanitarian visas, which would allow those seeking international protection a safe, legal way to enter the European Union.

European Aluminium 2050 Vision confirms huge potential to decarbonise the value chain and meet growing demand

Katowice (Poland), 11 December 2018 – European Aluminium’s new report called “Vision 2050” confirms the strong growing European and worldwide demand of aluminium in key markets such as automotive, packaging and building. While the document is set to be released soon, it outlines the substantial reduction of direct and indirect CO2 emissions through innovation, regulatory predictability and increasing recycling rates.
 

COP24: Aluminium well placed to support the transition to e-mobility

S&Ds defend EU workers’ rights despite efforts by the conservatives to block progress

Today, the Socialists and Democrats led a majority in the European Parliament to defend two reports aiming at improving and safeguarding the social rights of millions of European workers, in spite of a challenge from the right wing forces. The S&Ds denounced the efforts from nationalists and conservatives to delay progress on the two proposals - the coordination of social security systems and the European Labour Authority - that will fulfil the commitments made under the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Risk assessment of our food chain should be immune to any pressure from the industry, say S&Ds

Today the European Parliament voted for a stricter and impartial European system to exclude any dangerous substance from the food chain. Socialists and Democrats have been at the forefront in the fight against harmful pesticides, such as those containing glyphosate.
 

Parliament backs use of over 500 million Euros to manage migration and resettle refugees

The European Parliament today backed the use of over 500 million Euros to help manage migration and support the relocation of refugees between EU member states. The amount had originally been earmarked in 2015, but had not yet been used.
 
S&D Group MEP Miriam Dalli, who was responsible for negotiating on behalf of the Parliament, said:
 

Bulgaria and Romania should join Schengen without delay, partial membership is not an option

The European Parliament today backed an S&D led report calling for Romania and Bulgaria to become full members of the Schengen area without delay. Both countries meet the technical requirements to become members but have been blocked for political reasons in the European Council.
