S&Ds stand by Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, but more reforms are necessary, especially in the fight against corruption

Yesterday, the European Parliament assessed the reforms implemented by Ukraine in the frame of its Association Agreement with the EU, the most ambitious agreement the EU has ever had with any country thus far. Socialists and Democrats recognise that Ukraine has passed many important reforms despite very difficult circumstances, namely the occupation of Crimea, Russian aggression in the Eastern part of Ukraine and now in the Sea of Azov.

Parliament backs report on improving the EU's capability to tackle terrorism

The European Parliament today backed a report looking at the legislative and practical deficiencies in the fight against terrorism in Europe. The vote took place the day after a gunman killed multiple people at a Christmas market in Strasbourg, where the European Parliament sits.

S&Ds: it’s time to end the veto in EU foreign policy

On the occasion of the vote by the European Parliament today on its annual report on the Common Foreign and Security Policy, the Socialists and Democrats called on the member states to introduce qualified-majority voting in certain areas of EU foreign policy to speed up decision-making and eliminate situations in which one country blocks consensus. S&Ds also underlined their attachment to multilateralism and called on Europe to fill the vacuum left by the United States.
 

European Parliament backs progressive trade agreement with Japan

The European Parliament today voted in favour of a comprehensive trade agreement with Japan. It is the largest bilateral trade deal ever concluded by the EU in terms of market size, covering almost one third of world GDP.

David Baker, RPC Group Industry Affairs Director, becomes new Chairman of the POLYOLEFIN Circular Economy Platform (PCEP)

During “The European Plastics Industries – Towards Circularity” event held in Brussels on 11 December, David Baker, RPC Group Industry Affairs Director, was confirmed as Chairman of the Polyolefin Circular Economy Platform – PCEP. He succeeds Eugenio Longo, Borealis Head of Sustainability and EU Affairs, who had been the Chairman of PCEP since its inception.
