Compromise on electricity markets wraps up Clean Energy Package

EU negotiators reached an overnight compromise deal on the last remaining part of the Clean Energy Package, electricity market design.
 
Negotiators from the European Parliament and the Council agreed that priority dispatch for existing renewables will continue to apply. For new renewables, in its place come fair and transparent rules on curtailment, including giving compensation for lost revenues in countries where re-dispatch is not market-based.

The European Parliament and the EU Council finally reached a deal late yesterday evening for a reform of the electricity market in the European Union. The aim of the S&D negotiators has been to make the market more sustainable, decentralised and flexible, while improving affordability and price transparency for consumers.

The UK Government must address the concerns of small businesses with the potential for a no-deal Brexit set to clash with the introduction of HMRC’s new online VAT system in April 2019, Making Tax Digital (MTD), according to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
