Final EU tax report voted: How to stop losing €825.000.000.000 a year to tax evasion

Following leadership from the Socialists and Democrats, the most ambitious report from the European Parliament so far on how to tackle tax evasion, tax avoidance and money laundering has been voted today. Tax justice in Europe comes one-step nearer to stopping €825 billion of tax evasion - which represents a loss of €1.600 on the shoulders of each EU citizen. In addition, the EU is losing €160 to €190 billion due to tax avoidance each year. 
 

S&Ds push for sustainability and for affordable prices in the reform of the EU electricity market

Today, the European Parliament backed the final agreement with the EU Council on the reform of the internal electricity market. Socialists and Democrats played a crucial role to ensure that the reform will promote the production of clean energy while tackling energy poverty among vulnerable groups in Europe by allowing for social energy tariffs.

The EU Parliament backs Marita Ulvkosg’s proposal to end the seasonal time change by 2021

The European Parliament has taken up the demand signed by four million Europeans to stop changing the clock one hour ahead or one hour back every six months. Today it backed the report drafted by S&D MEP Marita Ulvskog demanding that this seasonal change of time ends as of 2021.

S&Ds request to quickly approve European market infrastructure regulation (EMIR)

S&Ds condemn the lack of ambition of member states to reinforce the regulatory framework on Central Counterparties. On the 20th of March, the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) withdrew its recommendation to amend Article 22 of the Statute of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and of the ECB on conferral of powers in relation to Central Counterparties (CCPs).
