S&Ds: It is not acceptable that member states sell arms to authoritarian regimes in the Middle East and North Africa, supporting the EU foreign policy only on paper

Eight years after the Arab Spring, the situation in most countries in the Middle East and North Africa region remains critical. Human rights violations are still ongoing, unemployment rates for women and the youth is amongst the highest in the world. In the resolution approved today by the European Parliament, concerns have also been expressed about the ongoing export of arms and surveillance technologies from EU member states to authoritarian regimes. All EU countries should therefore strictly comply with the EU’s Common Position on Arms Export.

Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament took another step in the progressive direction today by voting for modernising the requirements for the sale of fertilising products in Europe, which will contribute to moving towards a true circular economy. With these new rules, up to 30% of Europe's need for phosphate-based fertilisers could be met by recycling nutrients from what could otherwise be disposed of as waste.

The Single-Use Plastics (SUP) Directive was adopted today

S&Ds: Tax justice cannot wait for another scandal: citizens cannot accept secrets anymore

The S&D Group pushed the European Parliament for voting today in favour of the disclosure of income tax information by certain undertakings and branches. Member states are still blocking to move towards a fair and transparent solution for taxpayers in Europe with the so-called country-by-country-reporting (CBCR).
