Markets in Financial Instruments Directive: We don’t want a ‘quick fix’ that tries to exploit the Covid-19 crisis to deregulate financial markets

In a vote in the committee on economic affairs, the S&D Group abstained on the so-called Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) quick fix. With this proposal, the European Commission aimed to make some amendments to MiFID regime, in order to address the impact of the Covid-19 crisis, to encourage investment in the real economy and free up resources for both firms and investors.

Put the money where it matters! S&Ds reiterate support for InvestEU programme and its beneficiaries

Socialists and Democrats reiterated their support for European programmes that create quality, non-discriminatory jobs, in line with the Green Deal. In a joint vote in the committees on budgets and economic affairs, S&Ds called for more money for the InvestEU programme, one of the European Parliament’s 15 flagship initiatives included in the MFF negotiations.

CEEP on the minimum wages proposal: “Social Dialogue is always the best way to address issues impacting employers and workers”

On Wednesday 28 October, the European Commission has presented its proposal for a Directive on “adequate minimum wages in the European Union”. According to the proposal, this Directive aims at establishing “a framework for setting adequate levels of minimum wages”, and ensuring “access of workers to minimum wage protection, in the form of wages set out by collective agreements or in the form of a statutory minimum wage where it exists.”

García Pérez/Jongerius: “Proposal for fair minimum wages is a big achievement for people in Europe! Especially in the Covid-19 crisis, we have to fight for decent jobs!”

Led by EU Commissioner for Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, the EU Commission presented today its long-awaited proposal for a Directive on fair minimum wages. The S&D Group has been calling for such a proposal for many years and the proposal now forms part of the Commission Work Programme. The fight against in-work poverty and decent wages is particularly important for women and young people.

Commenting on the proposal, S&D Group president Iratxe García Pérez said:

Sustainable Finance must be open to all low-emission technologies

The EU wants to take forward the concept of Sustainable Finance. VDMA President Karl Haeusgen said at a virtual panel discussion of the VDMA European Office together with Euractiv:
