S&Ds vote to enhance cooperation between public employment services to get more people into jobs

Today, the European Parliament is set to prolong the successful cooperation programme Network of European public Employment Services (PES) for another seven years. The Socialists and Democrats support the platform, which enables the exchange of best practices, setting benchmarks and mutual learning with the goal of becoming more effective and efficient.

Mutual recognition of geographical indications is encouraging sign for EU-China cooperation

Today, the European Parliament approved the EU-China agreement on the cooperation and protection of geographical indications* (GIs). This will protect 100 European and Chinese geographical indicators and another 175 from both sides after four years.

S&Ds back new securitisation rules to ensure banks have breathing space to finance recovery without deregulating financial markets

Today, the economic committee in the European Parliament votes on targeted amendments to the EU’s securitisation framework adopted in 2017, which comprises the Securitisation Regulation and the Capital Requirements Regulation. The Commission’s proposals aim at enhancing banks’ lending capacity by making it easier to transfer credit risk to markets and to free their balance sheets from the burden of non-performing loans, which are expected to grow due to the economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic.
