S&D Group: PM Janša must be held accountable for attacks on media freedom in Slovenia

Today Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša made a brief appearance at the European Parliament’s Democracy, Rule of Law, and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group before leaving abruptly without any discussion with MEPs. As a result, S&D MEPs committed to using every tool at Parliament’s disposal to make sure the Slovenian government is held accountable for its unacceptable attacks on media freedom.

No to foreign financing of organisations pushing for abortion ban in Europe!

The Socialists and Democrats oppose foreign interference and financing of anti-choice organisations in the European Union. Sources from Russia and America in particular have invested a lot in these campaigns to push for a general ban on abortion. In order to stop this interference, the S&Ds call for more transparency and better rules on foreign funding for NGOs and foundations in Europe.

European paper recycling demonstrates high level of resilience in the light of severe global disruptions

European Parliament votes to stop cancer at work and include hazardous drugs and reprotoxins in the Carcinogens and Mutagens Directive (CMD)

The European Parliament voted on 25 March to support the Stop Cancer at Work campaign’s demands for:

Air pollution causes more than 400,000 premature deaths per year. It is the largest environmental risk to health in Europe and has a direct negative effect on the environment. This must stop.

The Ambient Air Quality Directives have been only partially effective so far.

The Socialists and Democrats Group welcomes the European Parliament’s adoption of the ‘New EU-Africa Strategy’ report. This own-initiative report is a response to the Commission’s joint communication on the EU-Africa strategy, which highlights some new elements for a renewed partnership in view of the upcoming EU-Africa Summit that, hopefully, will take place this year.

We have a Data Strategy that works for the people, say S&Ds

Socialists and Democrats demand that the European Data Strategy is transparent, trustworthy and human-centric, respecting human rights, workers’ rights and democracy. This is the final outcome agreed upon today by the European Parliament, under the lead of S&D rapporteur Miapetra Kumpula-Natri.

Cities and regions will be able to further invest in green projects, so that Europe can reach its climate neutrality target by 2050.
