The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament strongly condemn the European Commission’s proposal on the Chemicals Package, presented today. Under the guise of “simplification”, the proposal rolls back vital health and environmental protections across several key areas of EU chemicals legislation. 

According to CONAI’s new General Report, in 2024, 10.7 million tonnes of packaging found a second life. President Ignazio Capuano welcomed a result that testifies to the solidity of the Italian model, which today is called upon to do even more to design and use increasingly reusable, recyclable and recycled packaging”.

Brussels, 02 July 2025: The European Commission has set the 2040 climate target, but turning it into reality will require concrete enabling measures for all strategic sectors of the economy. The recognition of high-quality international carbon credits is welcome, but we need a higher cap, an early inclusion and the possibility to use them also for compliance in EU carbon market.

Today, the progressive family is joining forces to send a united and strong message: the future of Europe must serve its citizens and be tailored to their needs. The MFF is not just a budget. The next long-term EU budget is not a technical exercise; it is a fundamental political choice about our joint future.
