New opportunities in legal labour migration can help end exploitation and unfair work

During a plenary debate later today, the S&D Group will be leading calls for new avenues for people to come and work in the EU, including legal instruments for medium- and low-paid employment.

The report by S&D MEP Sylvie Guillaume also highlights the need for more legal channels as a means of fighting the exploitation of migrant workers and precarious employment. The report received widespread support at the committee vote in April and is expected to receive strong support in the final vote on Thursday.

Repay or resign! S&Ds demand strong action against Czech PM Andrej Babiš’ conflict of interest

The Socialists and Democrats call for swift and strong measures in the case of the conflict of interest of Czech prime minister Andrej Babiš. In a debate in the European Parliament, the S&Ds demanded that all payments to Babiš’ company be stopped and the remaining investigation concluded.

The European Parliament was elected by the people, and is responsible for the wellbeing of the people, say Socialists and Democrats.

Accountants need to keep up their guard when taking on new clients and make sure anti-fraud checks are rigorous enough to combat a potential increase in criminal activity driven by the global pandemic.

A new report from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) warns finance professionals against over-confidence in trusting their ‘gut feel’ about clients and strongly recommends they consider if digital technology checks could help.
