Protection of minors online: S&Ds take the lead and urge Commission to put forward ambitious measures

Hypersexualized and violent content, suicides and cyberbullying are among the daily harmful content they are exposed to on social media platforms, leading to increased anxiety and/or depression.

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament’s committee on regional development today gathered a majority for the adoption of the mandate of the European Parliament to enter negotiations with the member states in the Council on the mid-term review of the EU cohesion policy until 2027. 

EU reporting obligations for companies: “Reduce red tape, don't water down the omnibus package!”

Frankfurt/Brussels, 25 June 2025 – VDMA Managing Director Thilo Brodtmann comments on the ongoing negotiations in Brussels regarding the omnibus package on sustainability:

•    "Europe must stay on course and noticeably reduce the bureaucratic burden on companies with the omnibus package. Symbolic politics is useless - we need a clear focus on rules that can be implemented. Only then can the omnibus package make a real contribution to strengthening Europe as a centre for industry."

‘Tour d’Europe’ road trip proves significant GHG reductions from use of renewable fuels

Cars and trucks running on renewable liquid fuels travelled 77,500 kilometres in 16 countries, using 100% renewable fuels for 84% of the total journey, enabling GHG savings of 67% for the total kilometres travelled. This real-life project demonstrates the valuable, immediate contribution of renewable fuels to transport decarbonisation and their potential for doing even more with supportive EU policies in place

S&Ds: Cohesion funds should be also used for the construction of public housing

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament call on the member states and the Commission to make use of cohesion funds as an investment tool for the creation of public housing by local and state authorities. This is included in a report of the European Parliament's committee on regional development drafted under the lead of the S&D Group.

S&Ds in Budapest to defend LGBTIQ+ rights

Standing in defiance of attempts by the Hungarian government to silence the LGBTIQ+ community and its allies, a delegation from the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament (S&D) will be present in Budapest on Friday, 27 June and Saturday, 28 June, 2025.

ACCA announces redesign of qualification for a redefined accountancy profession

Global accountancy body ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has announced a redesign of its gold standard ACCA Qualification focused on a redefinition of accountancy which is expanding and reshaping the role of the profession.

The redesign reflects the increasing role of accountants in driving the widening value needed for business success, combining profitability with ethics, sustainability, the ability to leverage new technology and the agility to deal with economic volatility. Similar changes are being seen in the public sector.

European Parliament votes to take legal action after being excluded from decision-making process of EU defence funding

Today, members from the European Parliament committee on legal affairs voted to take legal action against the Council, for excluding the European Parliament from the decision-making process on the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) regulation*.
