Intended suspension of anti-dumping duties keeps floodgates for unfair and high-carbon Chinese imports open

Brussels, 10 September 2021 – European Aluminium, the voice of the European aluminium value chain, warns against the Commission’s proposed 9-month suspension of the definitive anti-dumping duties on Chinese aluminium flat-rolled products. A key contributor to the European Green Deal, the sector is worried about the block’s contradictory trade enforcement actions and sounds the alarm about the suspension’s devastating impact on EU industries beyond aluminium.

S&Ds put forward 10 key priorities ahead of the debate on the State of the Union

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament want to influence the political agenda of the European Union to bring new impetus to crucial policies that can no longer wait.

A few days ahead of the State of the Union debate, the president of the S&D Group, Iratxe García Pérez, handed a letter to the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, outlining the demands of the Socialists and Democrats for the 2022 Working Programme and for the following years until the end of this legislative cycle.

Afghan women are S&Ds candidate for the 2021 Sakharov Prize

Today the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament decided to nominate a collective of Afghan women for the 2021 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. They are women activists, politicians, journalists and teachers who have been fighting for women’s rights, including in the fields of education and political participation, and were themselves part of the political and associative life in Afghanistan before the Taliban seized the control.

Following a three-day fact-finding mission to Beirut, the S&D delegation, led by Vice-President Pedro Marques, and composed of MEPs Isabel Santos, Tonino Picula, Evin Incir and Nora Mebarek, announced that the Socialists and Democrats will request an urgent debate in the next plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg to discuss the dreadful situation in Lebanon and how the country can be relaunched.
