Chips Act: Strengthening the EU's technological sovereignty

Socialists and Democrats refuse to clear the accounts of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament’s committee on budgetary control deplores the discharge granted by the right-wing groups to Frontex. The S&D Group voted to refuse discharge to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency for its 2019 expenses due to the numerous examples of general mismanagement of the agency, as well as the severe shortcomings in fulfilling Frontex’s fundamental rights obligations.

No EU funding for fossil fuel projects, urge S&Ds

Fossil fuel projects like natural gas pipelines will no longer be eligible for funding with EU money, as a result of the work by the Socialists and Democrats in the European parliament’s committee on industry, research and energy. S&D members of the European Parliament included this provision in the parliamentary report revising the 2013 regulation on trans-European networks in energy (TEN-E). The aim of this regulation is to set EU rules for cross-border energy infrastructures and determine the process for selecting projects of common interest.

S&D wants lower prices but same quality of mobile services when roaming in Europe

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament want cheaper roaming prices for mobile phone services when citizens are traveling in the European Union. They included this in a report, to be adopted today in the European Parliament’s committee on industry, research and energy.

Liberals make gains in German elections

Speaking from Berlin on 26 September, in response to the preliminary results of the German Bundestag elections, ALDE Party acting co-President Timmy Dooley said:

“I would like to congratulate our liberal partners Freie Demokratische Partei, FDP and its leader Christian Lindner on the excellent results in these elections.”

Following the victory of the SPD in yesterday’s parliamentary elections with 25,7% as first parliamentary group, the S&D Group congratulates Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz and the SPD for their successful campaign and strong result. The elections in Germany send a clear message for a strong social democracy and progressive policies all across Europe.

It’s your Europe, have your say! S&D Group to host Future of Europe citizens’ debate in Malta

As part of the Conference on the Future Europe, the Socialists and Democrats will host a citizens’ debate in Malta where people will have their say on the future of Europe. To kick off, interactive exchanges on topics like climate change, social rights, the digital transition and what young people want for the EU’s future, S&D Group president Iratxe García Pérez will be joined by Malta’s Minister for Inclusion and Social Wellbeing, Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli.

European organisations join forces to shine spotlight on cardiovascular health

Brussels, 27 September 2021:  The European Alliance for Cardiovascular Health[1] launches today to raise awareness of the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and call for action from European decision-makers.

The announcement comes ahead of World Heart Day on 29 September.
