S&Ds: we shaped a new green, fair and more social Common Agricultural Policy

Three years after the proposal put forward by the Commission and many rounds of negotiations among the EU Council and EU Commission, the European Parliament has eventually approved the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The reform consists of three files: the CAP Strategic Plans, the Horizontal Regulation (Finance, Management and Monitoring) and the Common Market Organisation Amending Regulation.

S&D co-ordinator in the committee on agriculture, Paolo De Castro, said:

The EU must stop the offshoring of essential medicines manufacturing investments: ambitious, open and coherent policies must support competitive, robust and sustainable production of APIs and medicines

The European Union must play a decisive role in supporting the production in Europe of APIs and medicines with immediate, robust and ambitious policies that prioritise patient access, while expanding and bolstering its competitiveness and geopolitical position by remaining open and attracting investments.

S&Ds will get a ban on targeted ads for minors in a compromise with other political groups on the Digital Markets Act

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament’s committee on internal market and consumer protection (IMCO) lead by S&D MEP Evelyne Gebhardt, will get a ban on targeted ads for minors. This comes as part of the package of compromises on the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to be voted this evening during an extraordinary meeting of the parliamentary committee.

Evelyne Gebhardt, German S&D MEP, and S&D negotiator on the Digital Markets Act said:

We need a secure supply of critical raw materials to ensure a successful energy transition and the competitiveness of our industry, say S&Ds

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament call for better recycling, reuse and substitution of critical raw materials. This conclusion was made in a report to be voted this week in the plenary of the European Parliament.

SGI Europe’s assessment of the COP26 in Glasgow

SGI Europe welcomes the consensus reached by global leaders from over 190 countries in Glasgow (United Kingdom), after two weeks of negotiations. The COP26 concluded its sessions with a global Glasgow Climate Pact, pledging to keep limiting global warming to 1.5 C degrees and additionally agreed to invest 100 billion dollars per year to support vulnerable and developing countries hit by climate change.
