S&Ds: the new Eurovignette Directive is a Copernican revolution for the European transport system

The vote today is the final step on a long march started by the EU Commission in 2017 with the proposal to amend the Eurovignette Directive, the new rules on charging heavy goods vehicles for using Europe’s roads. This did not sufficiently take into account the need to go for a more green and sustainable European transport system, based on the ‘polluter pays’ principle, which could also be applied for negative effects of road transport, such as air pollution, noise and congestion. This revolution is now reality.

EU-Africa Summit VDMA: Strengthen relations with Africa!

Commission President von der Leyen must lead by example on transparency and integrity in EU

Recent findings from the European Ombudsman proved MEPs were right to be worried about the levels of transparency when it comes to the Commission’s handling of COVID-19 vaccines. A report on the activities of the Ombudsman in plenary this week, which started in the petitions committee, raises alarm bells about the purchasing and distribution of vaccines under the Commission’s emergency public procurement procedure in 2020. The debate on the activities of the Ombudsman took place on Monday evening and the vote takes place today (Tuesday).

Ban unpaid internships, S&Ds call on conservatives and liberals

The European Parliament will tomorrow vote on a resolution on post-pandemic youth, which contains an S&D amendment on banning unpaid internships. In the afternoon, members will debate on youth questions in the framework of the European Year of Youth 2022. The Socialists and Democrats call on all political groups to walk the talk, and deliver real progress and hope for young people, who were hit hardest by the pandemic and its fall-out.

A way out of the EU gas price crisis with biomethane

  • Rapid scale up needed to achieve a biomethane production of at least 34 bcm before 2030.
  • Clear political support will give investors confidence to support biomethane deployment.
  • Biomethane produced in Europe is right now 30% cheaper than natural gas and can reduce EU energy dependency on external suppliers.

CEMA calls on institutions to mainstream agricultural mechanization in upcoming EU-Africa Summit

Brussels, 15th February 2022 – European Manufacturers of Agricultural Machinery, reunited in the CEMA Board of Directors, called today on EU leaders to mainstream Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization in Africa, as part of the upcoming discussions in the 6th EU Union – African Union Summit. The summit will be taking place in Brussels on 17th and 18th February 2022 and will be the basis to launch a renewed AU-EU partnership.

Batteries Regulation ENVI Committee vote

Brussels, 10 February 2022 – After weeks of negotiation, the European Parliament ENVI Committee voted today on a series of compromise amendments regarding the new Regulation on batteries. FEAD welcomes that mandatory recycled contents, as initially proposed by the European Commission, has remain unchanged.
