End built-in obsolescence and empower citizens to repair their products, say S&Ds

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament called for an effective right to repair for consumers in a plenary debate in Strasbourg today. They welcomed the European Commission’s intention to propose EU legislation on this matter. The S&D Group fully supports this idea – a real step forward that will save people money and will help the environment.

Germany gets ready to deploy more than 10 GW of new wind per year with historic package

The German Government passed the so-called “Easter Package”, the most profound changes to German energy policy since the introduction of competitive auctions in 2017. By 2030 Germany aims for 80% renewables in total electricity consumption. Already from 2025 onwards Germany wants to install 10 GW of new onshore wind energy every year alone. To deliver this expansion in onshore wind the Government proposal increases annual auction volumes to up to 12 GW.

Training asylum seekers to address job shortages in Belgium

A shortage of labour has prompted the Belgian government and private sector to launch initiatives that help asylum seekers fill the ever-increasing job vacancies in the country.

The combined effort among federal agencies, private companies and non-profit organisations aims to match asylum seekers’ skills with employers’ needs as they wait for their asylum applications to be processed.
