Hungary’s veto of minimum tax for multinationals a heavy blow to tax justice

EU finance ministers today again failed to reach a consensus on transposing the global deal on a minimum effective tax rate for multinationals into European legislation. Just after Poland withdrew its longstanding veto, it is now Hungary blocking the agreement. This marks a third failed attempt to pass this crucial legislation and is a heavy blow to tax justice. This also again calls into question the viability of unanimity voting in taxation matters, underlined the S&Ds.

Safety of products in the EU guaranteed through S&D efforts

The general safety of products citizens use in daily life will be guaranteed from now on by new legislation, with a significant contribution from the S&D Group and its negotiator, René Repasi, in the European Parliament’s Committee on the internal market and consumer protection (IMCO). In a vote in the committee today, the S&D Group succeeded in ensuring there is a safety net for products, that gives manufacturers and other market players clear responsibilities and includes strict obligations for online marketplaces.

S&Ds support the role of Labor and Meretz parties in the Israeli coalition government

The Socialists and Democrats delegation to Israel and Palestine held several meetings with members of the Knesset and the Israeli government, including Nitzan Horowitz, chair of Meretz and Minister of Health, and Merav Michaeli, chair of the Labor Party and Minister of Transport and Road Safety. They also met with Ahmad Tibi, member of Knesset and chair of the Arab Movement for Change, all three sister parties.

Today, EU ministers endorsed the provisional agreement on the Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages reached between the European Parliament and the French EU presidency in Strasbourg on 6 June.

Eurefas - The European Refurbishment Association announces the publication of the Pledge towards a qualitative electronic device refurbishment sector

EUREFAS, which currently counts 17 members, gathered in Brussels in May 2022 for its second annual General Assembly. Here, the Pledge was discussed, and the members were able to interact with key EU stakeholders from the European Commission. Main topics included the Sustainable Product regulation and the Right to Repair movement, aiming to shape the industry and encourage consumers to change consumer habits towards greener products.
