ChargeUp Europe:

We call on the European Parliament to remove the retrofit obligation for existing public AC charging stations ahead of the plenary vote.

Bosnia and Herzegovina must now implement reforms to transform the country into a functional state and follow the path towards the EU

Following Sunday’s general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Socialists and Democrats urge the new leaders to overcome ethnic divisions and focus on the necessary reforms towards a prosperous, democratic, and European future. The new government must implement all the commitments and reforms, including the rulings of domestic and international courts, to transform Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) into a fully functional state.

No time to waste before winter - tax all companies profiting from the crisis, urge S&Ds

Europeans who are struggling to buy their food and heat their homes can no longer wait. Soaring prices require immediate taxation of all companies that are profiting from the current social and economic crisis, not just the energy ones, urge the S&Ds.

Biljana Borzan MEP, S&D vice-president for economic matters, said:

S&Ds put an end to the tangle of cables and replace them with one common charger

The single charger for multiple electronic devices will finally become a reality in the EU as a result of the work by the S&D Group and its vice-president Alex Agius Saliba. Thanks to his efforts and the support of the Socialists and Democrats, consumers will no longer have to buy a new charger every time they buy a new mobile phone, camera, laptop, or any other chargeable device.

S&Ds: Persistent Organic Pollutants? No, thank you! EU Parliament approves further limitations

The S&D Group welcomes the approval of the new Regulation to limit and gradually phase out Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in waste. This final vote concludes the legislative procedure after tough and technical negotiations with the Council and the Commission. The Socialists and Democrats managed to shape a wide majority in the house to secure more ambitious concentration limits than initially put forward in the Commission’s proposal.

With two new building blocks of the European Health Union set and ready, the EU now better equipped to face pandemics

The European Parliament today endorsed two new building blocks of the European Health Union* - the enhanced European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), and the reinforced legislation on serious cross-border health threats. The S&Ds underline that both will significantly strengthen the European Union’s capacity to prepare for and cope with health crises, notably pandemics such as Covid-19.

Sándor Rónai MEP, S&D’s shadow rapporteur on the ECDC file, said:

Not tackling the veto on minimum tax for multinationals is simply outrageous, deplore S&Ds

More than three months have passed since the last failed attempt to agree on transposing the global deal on a minimum effective tax rate for multinationals into European legislation*. Then, the Hungarian government led by Viktor Orbán vetoed it, despite having initially agreed to it on a global stage. And now when the EU finance ministers meet today, this burning issue is not even on the agenda.

S&Ds: Russia, and only Russia, is responsible for its war of aggression. EU’s unity is our strongest weapon!

As Russia is escalating its war of aggression against Ukraine, and ahead of the EU summit in Prague on Friday, the Socialists and Democrats urged today the member states to remain united, increase their assistance to Ukraine, including military, and swiftly impose a new package of economic sanctions against Russia to cut its ability to continue the war.

S&Ds to member states: Put an end to speculations on the energy market now and cap gas prices!

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament ask the European Commission and the member states for an investigation on market abuse and manipulation with energy commodities and electricity prices. This is stated in a resolution adopted by the European Parliament on the EU’s response to the increase in energy prices.

Putting workers and environmental rights at the core of our trade policy - consistent S&D advocacy gets results
