Following today’s presentation of the Circular Economy Package II, the Socialists and Democrats welcome this important step in the right direction for implementing the objectives of the Green Deal. The Progressives in the European Parliament regret, however, the Commission’s decision to postpone the regulation on substantiating environmental claims using the Product and Organisation Environmental Footprint methods, the so-called ‘Green Claims’ proposal, which was intended to fight corporate greenwashing.

The Socialists and Democrats reached a deal last night with the European Commission, EU Member States and other political groups in the European Parliament on the new General Product Safety Regulation. The S&Ds introduced new provisions that will make imported products safer. From now on,  for every item imported from a third countries and sold to Europeans online, one person physically present in the EU has to take on the legal responsibility.

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament will join forces with our Austrian social democratic party, SPÖ, to ”Bring the Bills Down” at an external group meeting taking place in Vienna from 5 to 8 December, 2022.  As part of this campaign, the S&D Group is calling for a winter solidarity package for families and companies, as well as permanent crisis management instruments to support the labour market, cap energy prices, and reform the energy market.
