Harmonised bioequivalence guideline paves the way for global generic medicine development and access to medicines

The International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) has initiated the process for a new guideline on bioequivalence requirements for the approval of medicines, which is an important milestone for global convergence. The EU Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe can build on this to enable global generic medicine development which is needed for better access to medicines and security of supply.   

S&Ds welcome legislative proposals for reform of EU fiscal rules, but regret lack of permanent fiscal capacity and social dimension

The S&Ds welcome the long-awaited legislative proposals for the much-needed reform of the EU fiscal rules presented today by the European Commission. It is positive in that the proposals foresee more flexibility for strategic investments and allow for different member states' debt reduction paths.

Today, MEPs in the civil liberties, justice and home affairs committee have sent the European institutions a warning about the significant shortcomings in public access to documents. In a report drafted by S&D member Evin Incir, MEPs call for transparency to be the rule in the EU, not the exception.

The European Parliament is ready to negotiate for asbestos-free work. Today, its employment committee agreed on a strong mandate for talks with EU member states on the revised European law on the protection of workers from asbestos.
