IRU calls on EU Transport Council to ensure that greening of transport is applied to all modes of transport and all users to be effective.

Brussels – The International Road Transport Union (IRU) calls on the Council of Transport Ministers, meeting on 9 October to discuss the Greening of Transport package, to ensure that the Commission’s initiative on internalising external costs is applied to all transport modes and users at the same time, if they want to meet the EU’s environmental objectives.

ECPA calls for European Food Safety Authority Study

The European Crop Protection Association (ECPA) is calling for the European Parliament and Commission to request an independent, comprehensive impact assessment from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on Parliament's and Council's proposed pest management restriction criteria.  The request was addressed to EU Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou in response to the release of what ECPA describes as a narrowly focussed and highly flawed report undertaken for the European Parliament's Environment Committee.

Brussels, 6 October 2008 - The European automobile manufacturers are deeply concerned about the evolving financial crisis and the consequent drop in consumer confidence and economic growth. The economic downturn adds to already extensive pressure on car production in Europe, due to increasingly stringent regulatory equirements, in particular the pending CO2-reduction legislation, and could represent a serious backlash to the transition to low-emission vehicles on Europe’s streets.
