At the eve of the June European elections, RICS urges the new European Parliament to focus on better regulation and higher standards, with the aim to consolidate a sustainable built environment on the road towards economic recovery and improved quality of life for its citizens, as part of its Manifesto launched in London (12 May 2009).

Caritas call to action in the face of the crisis

On April 27-30, 2009, the Social Policy Forum of Caritas Europa brought together in Prague Caritas experts from all over Europe. The Forum was titled “Solidarity: Sustainable Social Strategy” with the aim to explore how European societies and governments can take up their responsibilities in addressing the social effects of the economic crisis.

How Europe can save the world", Guy Verhofstadt, former Belgian Prime Minister, provides an analysis of how the European Union can tackle the current economic and financial crisis. He pleads for more European integration and less protectionism. In addition Verhofstadt argues that the issuing of Euro bonds by the European Investment Bank is necessary.

Commercial broadcasters urge Commission to adopt broadcasting communication update under this legislature

Brussels, 11 May 2009 – The Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Europe (ACT), representing the interests of the commercial broadcasting sector in Europe, urges the Commission to enable a swift adoption of the new Broadcasting Communication, aiming to update the 2001 Communication and setting out the principles to be followed by the Commission on the application of state aid rules to public broadcasters.
