CECED welcomes a new Vice Director General

Brussels, 15 May 2009: Paolo Falcioni has been appointed Vice Director General of CECED, the European Committee of Domestic Appliance Manufacturers.

He brings almost 20 years of experience with national and international technical and policy-making bodies in the industrial sector to this newly created position. Prior to joining CECED, Mr. Falcioni was the European Affairs Manager for Indesit Company.

Mr. Falcioni, who is Italian, has an Electric Engineering degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Ancona (Italy). He is fluent in Italian and English.

The EU Social Partners for Road Transport propose six common actions for an EU Road Transport Recovery Plan mitigating the impact of the economic crisis.

Brussels – The International Road Transport Union (IRU) and the European Transport Workers Federation (ETF), as EU Social Partners for Road Transport, agreed a joint statement including six measures which both organisations insist as a minimum must form part of an urgently needed road transport recovery plan, to be coordinated and realised by the European Commission together with EU Member States.

BirdLife International announces more Critically Endangered birds than ever before

BirdLife International's latest evaluation of the world's birds has revealed that more species than ever are threatened with extinction. A staggering 1,227 species (12%) are now classified as Globally Threatened but the good news is that when conservation action is put in place, species can be saved.

"In global terms, things continue to get worse - but there are some real conservation success stories this year to give us hope and point the way forward", said Dr Leon Bennun, BirdLife's Director of Science and Policy.

Commercial broadcasters take action to raise awareness about the 2009 elections

Brussels, 13 May 2009 – In the light of the forthcoming 6th European Parliament’s elections, commercial broadcasters from all over Europe take action by broadcasting a large-scale awareness raising campaign. The campaign entitled “European Elections – It’s your Choice”, will run until and during the EP elections, which will take place in the 27 Member States between 4 and 7 June 2009.
