On 6 May, leading representatives from the European food chain together with the European Commission joined hands to launch the European Food Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Round Table.

Speaking at the event Jean Martin, President of CIAA, said “There is only one planet. We must use our resources wisely, also for the sake of consumers and businesses. It is imperative to develop sound methodologies to fight consumer confusion.”

Rome, 13 May 2009 – Today Enel announced to have been awarded in joint venture with Total an exploration block (named E. El Burullus) in the offshore Nile Delta in the
frame of the 2008 EGAS International Bid Round. The joint venture is 90% Total that will also have the role of Operator and 10% Enel.

E. El Burullus offshore block covers an area of 2516 square kilometers and is situated approximately 70 kilometers from the coast, in water depths varying from 100 to 1600
meters.

CIAA welcomes the EFSA Opinion (adopted on 13 March 2009) on the ‘Review of labelling reference intake values’. The EFSA Opinion endorses the science underpinning GDAs and reinforces what has been proposed already within the scope of the European Commission Proposal for a Regulation on food information to consumers with regard to the proposed reference values for the GDA labelling scheme.
