On 18 June 2009, in the presence of Vladimir ŠPIDLA, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, the European Social Partners, have formally adopted an agreement revising their 1995 Framework Agreement on Parental Leave.

Better bus and coach statistics for better policy-making

UNECE’s decision to collect bus and coach statistics through the joint UNECE, ITF and EUROSTAT questionnaire will considerably contribute to informed policy making.

Geneva – The IRU welcomes the decision taken today by the Working Party on Transport Statistics (WP.6) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), to approve the Handbook on transport statistics by bus and coach and launch data collection on bus and coach transport through the UNECE/ITF/EUROSTAT questionnaire.

FIA Clubs declaring war on road casualties, call for EU Action at the highest level

Chief executives and presidents of FIA automobile clubs in Europe gathered in Copenhagen for the 2009 FIA Eurocouncil summit to discuss road safety in Europe in anticipation of the 4th European Road Safety Action Programme expected to run from 2011-2020.

Published today, the resulting FIA Copenhagen Declaration expresses firm views held by the 65 motoring organisations, representing 35 million road users on what is needed if we want to seriously minimise the unnecessary carnage and suffering currently experienced on Europe’s roads.

ECTA CONDEMNS COMMISSION U-TURN ON TELECOMS COMPETITION

Brussels, 12 June 2009 – New proposals from the European Commission on ‘fibre access networks’ could allow dominant firms to escape regulation, limiting choice in TV and broadband services, ECTA warns. The Commission’s proposed “Recommendation on Next Generation Access” suggests that if incumbents make a deal with just one operator, they could avoid requirements to offer cost-based access allowing their rivals to offer alternative services.
