Czech-led project E! 3161 LOGCHAIN+ E-RAILMAP wins EUREKA Innovation Days Award 2009

The EUREKA 2009 Innovation Days Award for outstanding technological and commercial achievement went today to Czech-led project E! 3161 LOGCHAIN+ E-RAILMAP (electronic rail map of Europe). Software company JERID, a Czech SME, along with partners from Austria and Germany, developed a powerful new computer software package for managing freight transport.

six agri-cooperatives with the “European Award for Cooperative Innovation”.

• In “environment”: Badischer Winzerkeller eG. from Germany.

Sugarcane as a key element against Global Warming to be highlighted at Green Week in Brussels

São Paulo, June 23, 2009 – What does sugarcane have to do with Global Warming? Everything, when you consider Brazil’s highly successful, 30-year experience with sugarcane as a feedstock for ethanol. In place since the mid-70s, the largest program in the world to replace a fossil fuel with renewable energy has saved some 600 million tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It would take 20 years for six billion trees to achieve the same results.

Green issues are becoming central in today’s political debate. We very often hear about climate change, global warming, emission control and biodiversity. But very often too, there is a key element that is missing in the debate: what about water?!

Tony Depledge new Chairman of UITP EU-Committee

The EU-Committee of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) has elected Tony Depledge as its new Chairman. Mr Depledge succeeds Guido del Mese,
General Manager of ASSTRA, who chaired the Committee for four years.

Mr Depledge has been Director of Transport Policy in Arriva plc since 2001 and has a career in the transport industry which spans nearly 40 years.
