Online gaming and betting: Belgian draft legislation rejected by European Commission

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) welcomes the European Commission’s detailed opinion against the Belgian proposal for online gaming and betting (see here). The draft legislation is supposed to restrict the online gaming and betting market to operators solely established in Belgium.

The ESNSurvey 2009: Information for Exchange has been launched

Organized by Erasmus Student Network (ESN), it will stay open till the end of July 2009.

ESN would like to invite all exchange and international students to fill in the questionnaire and help us improve the availability, quality and access to information for international students. The main goal of the survey is to analyse what information students, what information they are provided, by whom and in which quality.

Lothar Bisky elected president of GUE/NGL Group

The European United Left/Nordic Green Left (*) group in the European Parliament today unanimously elected German MEP Lothar Bisky (DIE LINKE.) as president of the group.

After thanking all group members for their confidence and paying tribute to the work of Francis Wurtz, who has led the group for the last two terms of office, Lothar Bisky declared: "The European United Left/Nordic Green Left group in the European Parliament will continue to fight for a social Europe and for the disarmament of the European Union, not its militarisation."

Blackmailing of Osram employees criticised by GUE/NGL group

The GUE/NGL group in the European Parliament today strongly condemned "the massive blackmailing of employees of Osram in Molsheim/Alsace by their management".

Employees at this plant have been forced into giving up 12.5% of their salaries, because of the European Commission's latest decision to ban low-efficiency light bulbs from 1 September on. The pay cut is intended to compensate an expected decline in sales.

Lothar Bisky, President of the GUE/NGL Group in the European Parliament, strongly condemns the military coup in Honduras, demands the reinstatement of the democratically elected President, Mr Manuel Zelaya, and his government, and the immediate release of all those detained in the framework of this totally illegal operation.

President Zelaya and his government had begun important work to free their country from hunger and poverty and for a real political social and economic integration of Latin America.

Structure of ENDESA board of Directors changed

Madrid, June 25th, 2009 – Enel announces that the Board of Directors of Endesa met today and formally accepted the resignation of the directors Carmen Becerril Martinez,
Valentin Montoya Moya, Esteban Morras Andres and Jorge Vega-Penichet Lopez – all nonexecutive directors nominated by Acciona – following the changes in the ownership
structure as a result of the sale to Enel Energy Europe Srl of the 25.01% of Endesa held directly and indirectly by Acciona.

ENEL completes acquisition of 25.01% of ENDESA

• Enel has acquired Acciona’s 25.01% stake in Endesa for 9,627 million euros. The total consideration for the transaction takes into account the dividends distributed by Endesa and received by Acciona after the accord of February 20th, 2009 (1,561 million euros), as well as interest accrued after that date (81 million euros).

Offer period for ENEL's rights offering ended

• 99.58% of the shares pursuant to the share option offering have been subscribed.

• Unopted option rights equal to about 25.72 million together granting the right to subscribe about 13.37 million of newly issued Enel ordinary shares (0.42% of the total) will be auctioned on the Italian Stock Exchange starting by June 26th.
