Buzek to be quizzed in public today on Parliament Presidency after Watson pulls out of race

Jerzy Buzek (Poland, EPP), the favourite to become the next European Parliament President following the decision by Mario Mauro (Italy, EPP) and Graham Watson (UK, ALDE) to pull out of the race and back Buzek, will be quizzed on his plans in public today in the only public debate to be held ahead of next week’s plenary vote in Strasbourg. The election of the new President will take place on Tuesday 14 July, by secret ballot. The only other official candidate, Eva-Britt Svensson (Sweden, GUE/NGL), will make a statement on her plans before the interview begins.

EU governments must denounce unfair competition to European industries in trade conditions for South Korea

Better Regulation – fact or fiction?

WEEE/RoHS recast far from satisfactory

It seems that industry concerns have been largely ignored as the proposals for the recast of WEEE and RoHS have been launched. At this time when our industries are appealing to avoid further financial and administrative burdens, the Commission has chosen to largely disregard its own Better Regulation policies. The recasts propose: for WEEE, to overhaul existing WEEE management structures in which industry has invested substantially and for RoHS an obvious overlap with REACH.

Yesterday afternoon, (Honduras time), at the request of the national movement of resistance formed by all social organisations and trade unions against the coup d’état, MEP Meyer met with José Miguel Insulza, General Secretary of the OAS.
