Syngenta to boost pollinators across Europe

Basel, Switzerland, July 15, 2009

Syngenta today announced the roll-out of a 5-year EUR 1 million program to provide essential habitat and food sources for pollinating insects across Europe. ‘Operation Pollinator’ aims to boost the numbers of native pollinating insects across seven European countries: Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Hungary.

Automotive production down 35% in first quarter 2009

Brussels, 14 July 2009 – In the first quarter of 2009, automotive production fell by 35%. While fleet renewal schemes have helped segments of the passenger car market in some countries, overall vehicle demand in Europe went further down as well.

These and other latest figures on automotive production and registrations can be found in the latest ACEA Economic Report(available on the ACEA website). The automobile industry’s trade association publishes this report three times a year, giving additional insight in market trends and automotive production.

European cereals production in decline

European farmers and agri-cooperatives have estimated the 2009 cereals harvest in the EU-27 at
309.4 million tonnes. This forecast, along with low harvest prices, could lead farmers to change
their sowing intentions this autumn. Cereals production for the 2010/2011 marketing year is
expected to fall even further and could impact on future stocks.

Brussels, 13 July 2009 – Today the European Commission published the results of an unparalleled exercise assessing the state of nature in 25 Member States. Using data provided by governments, the report analyses the situation of hundreds of habitat types and more than one thousand animal and plant species that are protected under the EU “Habitats” Directive.
