ENEL and EDF announced the creation of an equal basis joint venture for the nuclear development in Italy

• The company named Sviluppo Nucleare Italia is established and headquartered in Rome

• It will run feasibility studies for the construction of at least 4 EPR nuclear reactors in Italy
Paris and Rome, 3rd August, 2009 – Enel and EDF announced today the creation of the equal basis joint venture “Sviluppo Nucleare Italia Srl” aimed at developing the feasibility studies for the construction of at least 4 advanced third generation EPR units as traced by the agreement Enel and EDF signed on 24 February during the Franco-Italian summit in Rome.

ENEL and the region of Sicily sign protocol of understanding for energy development on the island

• The Region issued the authorisation decree to build up and operate the Porto Empedocle LNG terminal (planned investment: 650 million euros) which includes the agreement setting relevant measures beneficial to the territory.

• Enel and the Region will work together to increase power generation from renewable sources and the development of innovative projects, through more timely authorisation procedures. Plans call for 400 MW of new green capacity over the next 4 years (planned investment: one billion euros).

Italy's largest photovoltaic plant completed in Montalto Di Castro (Viterbo)

• With 10 hectares of photovoltaic panels, a capacity of 6 MW, an annual production of over 7 million kWh, the new plant will be able to meet the power needs of 2,700 households while avoiding the emission of 5,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

EC General vertical restraints BER review is not for cars” says FIA Eurocouncil

Following the publication of the review of the general vertical restraints Block Exemption Regulation (VRBER) today, FIA calls on Commissioner Kroes not to apply the VRBER to cars but rather maintain a sector specific Regulation for the automotive sector.

The Review of the VRBER - EC 2790/1999 adopted today aims at introducing new rules when the current VRBER expires in May 2010. These rules will regulate sales and distribution competition in markets ranging from cosmetics to internet sales to consumer durables.
