The IRU Special Company Award 2009 goes to Flygbussarna Airport Coaches of Sweden for its innovative policy and successful awareness campaign to promote a wider use of bus and coach services.

Kortrijk – The International Road Transport Union (IRU) is pleased to announce that the Special IRU Company Award 2009 was attributed to Flygbussarna Airport Coaches in Sweden for its innovative business policy and successful public campaign to raise customers’ awareness of buses and coaches’ excellent environmental record and to promote a wider use of their services.

Stockholm voted most coach friendly city

The city of Stockholm wins the IRU City Trophy 2009 for its green-minded and well-planned policy of facilitating and giving priority to coach tourism.

Kortrijk – Pursuant to its nomination as Sweden’s most coach friendly city in spring, the first European Green Capital, Stockholm, won the global IRU City Trophy 2009 for its exemplary coach-friendly policy.

1st European Innovation Summit “Strengthening Europe’s Innovation Performance”

Brussels, 16 October 2009 – On 13 and 14 October the first European Innovation Summit (EIS) took place at the European Parliament, bringing together some 600 stakeholders of the European Innovation Ecosystem, including representatives from the European Institutions, 33 exhibiting organisations and more than 120 speakers with complementary expertise and backgrounds from the public, private and academic sectors.

Commission unveils support for European carbon capture and storage schemes

Europe's first commercial scale coal-fired power stations equipped with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology will be built in Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Poland, Spain and Italy.

Documents presented to the European Parliament and made public TODAY (file available - see link below) reveal that the European Commission is recommending that five of the six schemes be awarded an initial subsidy of €180 million, to be matched by an equivalent sum from national governments. The Italian project will receive €100 million.

COPA WOMENS’ COMMITTEE AWARDS INNOVATION PRIZE AT PRESENTATION CEREMONY

Copas’ Innovation Prize for Women Farmers was awarded today by EU Farm Commisisoner Mariann Fischer Boel to Austrian dairy farmer Waltraud Schiffer at a Presentation Ceremony in Brussels.

The prize was awarded to Waltraud Schiffer of the organisation Bauerinnenorganisation der
Landwirtschaftskammer Steiermark (AU) for her project “joint dairy farm” which was developed by three neighbouring farms. It is a jointly-run dairy farm with 60 cows and a quota of 200,000 kg milk. The schiffers also directly market dairy products such as curd, butter, yoghurt and icecream.

Premium tyre manufacturers have so much to offer in terms of fuel efficiency, safety and noise reduction to the European consumers

Brussels, 15th October 2009 - The European Parliament, Commission and Council negotiators reached on 1st October, a political agreement on a tyre labelling system similar to that used for domestic appliances. The consumer will be provided with both environment and safety related information.

ETRMA and its 12 leading tyre corporate members fully support and welcome the objective of the mandatory tyre performance information requirement.
