EACA launches call for entries for the Care Awards® 2010: Members of the European Parliament to judge Social Marketing Campaigns

Brussels 1 December 2009: The European Association of Communications Agencies has launched the call for entries for the EACA Care Awards 2010. These Awards for European Social Marketing Campaigns recognise excellence in promoting care for people, resources and the environment. They are part of the EACA’s overall commitment to promote Corporate Social Responsibility and are linked to the ACT Responsible online gallery and the ACT Responsible World Tour.

The  EACA Care Awards 2010 are now open for entries until the 2nd April 2010.

Doubling bus and coach transport through effective business and public policy incentives is the Smart Move to significantly cut CO2 emissions while achieving sustainable mobility.

Copenhagen – “Taking the bus or travelling by coach is among the simplest, quickest and cheapest ways for individuals to contribute to CO2 reduction”, said Graham Smith, Vice President of the International Road Transport Union (IRU). Buses and coaches are the largest collective transport mode worldwide.

RICS calls for recognition of major contributors of climate change in Copenhagen

RICS in association with the European Landowners Organisation (ELO) hosted a seminar on 'Adaptation and Mitigation: The Land Manager and the Climate Challenge' at the COP 15 Copenhagen Summit.

The event, which attracted mainly representatives from the scientific community from countries like Denmark, Germany and Australia, coincided with official round table discussions on impacts of deforestation and discussion amongst non-governmental farmers' groups. 

Pedestrian crossings in Europe need significant improvements

Each year, more than 8,000 pedestrians are killed in the road accidents across Europe. Almost one out of four happens on a pedestrian crossing. 

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) European Bureau calls for a minimum standardisation of markings, traffic lights and traffic signs on pedestrian crossings which is needed in order to improve the worst situations existing in a number of countries throughout Europe.  

Accidents and violence are a major public health problem

Accidents and violence are a major public health problem, killing more than a quarter of a
million people in the EU-27 each year and causing around 42 million injuries that need
hospital treatment. Injuries are the fourth most common cause of death, after
cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and respiratory diseases.

Although the magnitude of the injury issue is evident to most governments, half of the EUmember
states still lack adequate injury data to guide their prevention actions.

Solar Energy: Key Solution to CO2 Challenges in the Developing World

Copenhagen, 14 December 2009: Intense debate at COP15 centres on the challenge of reducing CO2 emissions in developing countries without limiting their economic growth and ability to make life better for their citizens. EPIA (the European Photovoltaic Industry Association) is in Copenhagen to make the case that solar provides the opportunity for developing countries to leapfrog traditional energy dependence on fossil fuel to producing clean energy.

Industry Leaders Show Solar Energy Can Ramp up Quickly to Help Meet Global CO2 Challenges

Copenhagen, 11 December 2009: Global solar industry leaders have come to COP15 to showcase the immediate capability of solar power to deliver clean energy and reduce harmful carbon dioxide emissions (CO2).

The European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) and the U.S.-based Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) are spearheading the SolarCOP15 initiative in Copenhagen, supported by over 40 solar trade associations from around the world. 

US Subsidies for Black Liquor Use Distort International Competition

Pulp and paper associations around the world, including CEPI have requested that the US Administration stops its pulp and paper industry benefiting from the Fuel Tax Credit scheme after December, 31st 2009, as initially scheduled, and that the US pulp and paper industry’s eligibility for the Cellulosic Biofuel Producer Credit and the Biomass Crop Assistance Program is not granted.

Improved gas transmission information

Last year, at the Madrid Gas Forum 2008, all internal gas market stakeholders
agreed that improved fundamental data transparency was necessary for the
development of an effective, efficient and integrated market.

To improve the current patchy level of transparency in Europe’s gas networks,
EFET1, OGP2, Eurelectric, Eurogas, GEODE3 and CEDEC4 presented a list of
