New markets for SMEs with easy access to information on standards in China

Brussels (21 January 2010) –  Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) lack resources and language skills to obtain information on standards in China. This will be made easier with an upgraded Standardisation Information Platform agreed on 20 January 2010 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Brussels.

CEEP addresses the constitutive meeting of the Parliamentary

In Strasbourg on the 20th January 2010, Ralf Resch, General Secretary of CEEP, addressed MEPs in the first meeting of the Intergroup on public services in the European Parliament. He stressed the fact that “the creation of such an Intergroup was broadly supported by CEEP as a means of consulting key stakeholders. Indeed, now that the Parliament is given legislative powers in the field of Services of General Interest, it is essential that future policies are based on the real needs of the providers of those services”.

On January 20, the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) is officially announcing the theme of its 59th World Congress and Mobility & City Transport Exhibition ‘Boosting public transport: Action!’ The Congress and the Exhibition will be hosted by Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA) on 10-14 April 2011 in Dubai. UITP and RTA welcomed press and media to a press conference organised for the event at the RTA Auditorium located in Umm Ramool, Dubai.

The EU ‘cyber security’ Agency - ENISA (the European Network and Information Security Agency) presents its new, 3rd ‘spam report’, i.e. anti-spam measures implemented by European Internet service providers (ISPs). The report looks at spam budgets, impact of spam and spam management. No significant progress is reported in the fight against spam.

Flexible working: Governments "Must 'Think Small First" on Employment Legislation

What Is Flexible Working? A simple question, but one that many small businesses (SMEs) aren't sure how to answer. Whether or not they can answer it, evidence collected in a new report by ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), written in conjunction with the UK All-Party Parliamentary Small Business Group, shows that SMEs are often actively engaged in offering flexible working opportunities to their staff, even if they are unaware that what they are providing is 'flexible working'.
