Ms. Umit Boyner is elected TUSIAD's New President

TUSIAD is pleased to announce its new President, Ms. Umit Boyner. She is elected together with the new members of the board at the 40th General Assembly of TUSIAD held in Istanbul on January 21, 2010. Ms Boyner suucceds to Ms Arzuhan Dogan Yalcindag who served as TUSIAD President from 2007 to 2010. 

BPIE - The Buildings Performance Institute Europe

Two foundations supporting climate change initiatives, ClimateWorks in the United States and the European Climate Foundation, have provided the initial funding for the creation of the BPIE, while eceee is providing support during its developing stage. The institute is, nevertheless, conceived as an independent organisation.

The institute is based in Brussels.

CEEP calls on President Corbacho to put public services high on EU 2020 agenda

Ralf Resch, General Secretary of CEEP headed the CEEP delegation at the social Troika meeting today, at the eve of the informal Council of the European Ministers in charge of Employment and Social Security.

During his intervention Mr Resch asked President Corbacho to play an active role on behalf of the Spanish Presidency of the Council to include public services at the core of the EU 2020 strategy.

ECJ: No exception to the primacy of EU law over national gaming legislation says Advocate General Bot

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) welcomes today’s opinion of Advocate General (AG) Bot in the betting case involving Winner Wetten (C-409/06) before the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU). The opinion confirms that the primacy of EU law over national gaming legislation does not allow for any exception or transitional period. AG Bot dismissed the argument of Germany and other Member States that they should be allowed to have such an exception. Member States therefore have to immediately stop applying national gaming

Cautious approach needed before any decision on EU out-of-quota sugar exports is taken

São Paulo, January 27, 2010 – Following the announcement by the European Commission to propose additional out-of-quota sugar exports for an amount of 500,000 tonnes, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) reiterates its call on the Commission for a cautious approach, taking into consideration all interests at stake and potential dramatic consequences.
