GUE/NGL delegation at the World People's Conference on Climate Change in Cochabamba

GUE/NGL MEPs Marisa Matias (Portugal), Willy Meyer (Spain) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon (France) will attend the World People's Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth in Cochabamba, Bolivia, April 19 to 22 http://cmpcc.org/ .

The group welcomes the initiative taken by Bolivian President Evo Morales to convoke this conference as an important step towards the achievement of an ambitious and binding climate change deal in Mexico at the end of this year.

• According to the agreement, Enel in Italy and Endesa in Spain andLatin America will work jointly with the Renault-Nissan Alliance onprojects for the development of zero emission mobility.

EU Athletes & European betting industry launch educational campaign to support integrity in sports

The European betting industry has joined forces with EU Athletes to launch an educational campaign aimed at helping professional sportspeople better understand and deal with issues surrounding the integrity of sport and betting.

The new education campaign for athletes will consist of a code of conduct, jointly developed by EU Athletes, the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) and the European Sports Security Association (ESSA), and be supported by face-to-face presentations and online resources dedicated to providing ongoing support.

RE-thinking 2050: Making the EU 100% renewables-based

The European Renewable Energy Council (EREC), outlines in its new report RE-thinking 2050 a pathway how the European Union can switch to a 100% renewable energy supply for electricity, heating and cooling as well as transport, examining the effects on Europe’s energy supply system and on CO2 emissions. 

Guy Verhofstadt: "Recent declarations on the paedophile crisis are unacceptable"

Today Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the ALDE Group, has sent a letter to the Presidents of the European Commission, the European Council and the Parliament asking them to react to the declarations of Cardinal Bertone and others on the current paedophile crisis. ALDE Group members will seek to raise the matter via an oral question on the subject at a forthcoming plenary session.
