The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) has sent a message to the TRAN Committee’s Members calling on them to vote in favour of doubling the number of bus and rail users in urban areas by 2020, as suggested in Mr Grosch’s draft report on a sustainable future for transport.

Ash cloud focuses minds of EU transport ministers on air space reforms

With air traffic control restrictions once again affecting parts of the EU as a result of the volcanic ash cloud blowing back towards the EU, pressure was on EU transport ministers today to back European Commission proposals to strengthen EU air traffic coordination by speeding up agreement on a Single European Sky.

Members of the ALDE group welcome the support for the Commission to improve EU responsiveness in the event of future cases of 'force majeure' that leave tens of thousands of EU passengers stranded abroad and airlines on the point of bankruptcy.

Industrial emissions limits tightened

The European Parliament's environment committee adopted a draft report today by Holger Krahmer (FDP, Germany) at second reading, recasting existing EU legislation on limits to industrial emissions - integrated pollution, prevention and control (IPPC).
Although the Council did not accept the so called emissions safety net adopted by Parliament in first reading, the draft recommendation from the rapporteur remained close to Parliament's first reading position.
