ALDE rejects derivatives market protectionism

Sharon Bowles (Lib Dem, UK), Chairperson of the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee welcomed today's decision of the Committee to reject an openly protectionist approach to the regulation of derivatives markets.

"It is essential that users of derivatives are not forced to clear them within the European Union, almost regardless of type. All this would do is provoke similar measures in other jurisdictions, without providing a marked benefit."

PES welcomes Spanish EU Presidency ‘Sarajevo conference’ on targeted EU future for Western Balkans

The Party of European Socialists (PES) today welcomed the successful conclusion of the Spanish EU Presidency’s Sarajevo Conference. The 2 June conference, to renew EU commitment to EU membership for Western Balkan countries, brought together foreign ministers from the EU and the region as well as representatives from US, Turkey, Russia, NATO, the OSCE and the Venice Commission.
