New CEN-CENELEC Guide for standards writers considers SMEs needs

 (Brussels – 16 June 2010) A new CEN-CENELEC Guide, which provides guidance to standards writers on how to take into consideration the needs of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) when writing standards, is available. Providing advice and a useful checklist, the Guide addresses the issues to be considered during the development process of preparing European Standards relevant to SMEs.

Credit Rating Agencies - Commissioner Barnier must cease unacceptable deference to "mafia of speculators

Denouncing the Commission's refusal to confront the problems created by the credit rating agencies (CRAs) that have fuelled a "mafia of speculators" during this crisis, Greek GUE/NGL MEP Nikos Chountis today called for the work of the agencies to be undertaken by a public and democratically controlled institution.

Parliament's adopts positive but improvable position on Millennium Development Goals

 Reacting to Parliament's adoption of a report on the Millennium Development Goals, GUE/NGL German MEP Gabi Zimmer said that "with the approval of the Cashman report, we send a strong signal to EU Member States that they cannot relinquish their responsibilities in the fight against poverty and hunger" adding that while the report contains positive and realistic demands it "does not go far enough".
