S&Ds secured an important victory over conservatives’ continuous attempts to obstruct tax justice

Today, the European Parliament’s committee on economic affairs voted on several tax files that are of strategic importance for the future of taxation in the EU, including the report on taxation in times of crisis. In this report, we managed to secure two important points - we are calling on the Commission to look at the extension of the windfall tax to other sectors profiting from crises, and to support countries willing to tax capital more fairly.

S&Ds: “New pesticides regulation is ambitious, feasible and fair”

Pesticides, especially those used in agriculture, are under scrutiny from the European Union due to their harmful impact on the environment, including the loss of pollinators and the degradation of soils, as well as their associated human health risks. Today's adoption of the new pesticides regulation by the European Parliament's environment committee, which introduces binding reduction targets for the first time, is a step in the right direction.

S&Ds raise ambition to tackle environmentally harmful packaging and packaging waste

The European Parliament's environment committee has today approved key reforms to European packaging regulations, marking a critical step in addressing the climate and environmental harm posed by increasing packaging waste in Europe.
 
According to the latest Eurostat data, each European generates an average of more than 188 kilograms of packaging annually, contributing to more than a 20% surge in packaging waste across the EU in the past decade.

EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation: Parliament is paving the way for plasticized paper – Call for a return to the goals of the Green Deal

On 24 October, the ENVI committee will vote on its compromise amendments on one of the most complex and debated files, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). As part of the Green Deal, the new regulation is aiming at reducing packaging waste, fostering the circular economy and ensuring the functioning of the internal market by harmonised sustainability requirements for packaging.

S&Ds: member states and EU Commission called to develop long-term rural strategies to promote generational renewal

The European Parliament has just adopted a resolution on the generational renewal of future EU farms, broadly perceived as one of the biggest challenges of European agriculture. The S&D Group welcomes the overwhelming vote in favour of supporting young farmers and the recognition of young farmers’ absolute relevance in combating climate change, biodiversity loss, depopulation and threats to food security.
 

EU should finally stop its appeasement policy towards Serbia

Today, the European Parliament called on EU member states to adopt targeted restrictive measures against Serbian destabilising actors in relation to the unprecedented terrorist attack against Kosovo police officers, carried out by Serbian paramilitaries on 24 September in the north of Kosovo.
