AER Tribute to David Kirk

The Assembly of European Regions (AER) today pays tribute to David Kirk who passed away suddenly this weekend.

Considered “a tower of strength”, David Kirk was a staunch defender of the role of regional authorities in managing schools and maintaining high educational standards. Throughout his professional career, he understood that strengthening the political role of regions in Europe was essential for their development, especially that of his dear Hampshire.

AER Summer Schools “Rural, urban and interregional mobility”

Georges Pierret devoted his life to the defense of regionalism in France and Europe. Since the beginning of his professional career, he understood that strengthening the political role of regions was essential for their development, in particular that of his dear Bretagne.

EWP welcomes UN declaration that clean water and sanitation is a human right

Brussels, August 2010. The European Water Partnership welcomes the UN General Assembly’s declaration that safe and clean drinking water is a human right.  On Wednesday, 28th July, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution proclaiming the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation. Presented by Bolivia and 33 other States, the resolution received 122 votes in favour. No countries voted against the text but 41 countries abstained.
