Eurociett calls on Commission to support the role of Agency Work in increasing youth labour market participation

Brussels, 16 September 2010 – Eurociett, the voice of the Agency Work Industry in Europe, applauds the Commission’s Youth on the Move initiative to be adopted on 17 September and emphasises the importance of training and mobility in integrating young people into the labour market.

 Speaking at the opening of a GUE/NGL conference on the European Citizens' Initiative* with Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Irish MEP Bairbre de Brún said that mobilising people to engage in decision-making should be at the heart of the Citizens' Initiative.

The Prime Ministers of the Party of European Socialists (PES) will use tomorrow’s European Council meeting to call for an EU commitment to ‘fair growth’. The initiative, agreed after intensive discussions between the PES Prime Ministers, calls on the Governmental leaders, EU finance ministers and the European Commission to deliver a more balanced economic message than simply ‘austerity cuts and sanctions’.

Last Thursday the European Parliament overwhelming backed (337 for, 245 against and 51 abstentions) a resolution on the situation of Roma in the EU and particularly in France. The text demands, among other things, an end to the deportation of Roma from France. Since then the French government, in particular Ministers Besson and Lellouche, has been engaged in an out-and-out crusade against the Parliament, accusing MEPs of legal ignorance and arrogant posturing.
