The European Council's dull and disappointing conclusions

Speaking during the European Parliament debate this morning on the conclusions of the last European Council, French GUE/NGL MEP Patrick Le Hyaric said:

"One of the main issues the media highlighted at the last European Council was the sinister controversy nurtured by the French President against the Commission to defend the manhunt organised in France against a part of the European population, the Roma.

Commission strategy on gender equality: all talk and no action?

Today European Commission unveiled their plans for the next five years to combat inequality between men and women in the EU. While ALDE broadly supports this strategy and welcomes all measures aimed at tackling gender imbalance, is this plan heavy on rhetoric and too light on action?

MEDICATION SAFETY: TRANSFER OF GOOD PRACTICES CAN HELP

Medication safety is a key element of any strategy to improve care delivered to patients. European cooperation in this field has proved to be useful.

European commercial vehicle manufacturers cautiously optimistic for 2010 and 2011

Hanover,   21   September   2010   –   The  European  commercial  vehicle
manufacturers  are  cautiously  optimistic  with regard to production and
sales  in 2010 and 2011. “We will see better sales and earnings this year
than  in  2009.  The  recovery  in  demand  that we saw in Asia and South
America  at  the  end  of last year is now becoming more and more visible
also  in Europe”, said Leif Johansson, Chairman of the Commercial Vehicle
Board of ACEA and President and CEO of Volvo Group, speaking to reporters

The strengthening of commercial ties between the EU and Turkey is in the interest of both parties

Today the European Parliament approved a report by Metin KAZAK (Mouvement for rights and freedom, Bulgaria) by a very large majority, recommending in particular the widening of commercial ties with Turkey, the 17th economic power in the world and the 7th most important commercial partner with the EU. "Our commercial relationship is important for both parties but each side must make efforts to overcome the difficulties", declared Mr. Kazak.
