As the newly adopted Europe 2020 strategy sets high objectives in terms of competitiveness and sustainable development, 500 representatives from 150 European regions gathered in Istanbul to adopt a Declaration on innovation, Research and Development (R&D), further cementing the AER as a key actor in building new models of growth for post-crisis Europe.

Calling new rules on 'alternative funds' including hedge funds and private equity a "missed opportunity", German GUE/NGL MEP Jürgen Klute said today's EP vote on the AIFM directive fell far short of what was required to effectively regulate hedge funds.

"Council has missed an opportunity here. It bowed down to the intense lobbying of the finance industry and the UK government, undermining efforts to put in place effective regulation at European level" he said after the vote.

- We need to create the right environment to find and maintain secure retirement benefit schemes throughout the EU, namely through cultural change, better coordination with job creation -and preservation- strategies, as well as better involvement of employers in these schemes - asserts ACCA (the association of Chartered Certified Accountants) today in its response to the EU Consultation Towards adequate, sustainable and safe European pension systems.

The FIA European Bureau is announcing the successful completion of the iCars Network project designed to contributed to the deployment of transport ICT technologies (or ITS – “Intelligent Transport Systems").

For a period of two years, 16 European organizations, lead by  the  FIA European Bureau, gathered to exchange knowledge and experience on  deployment of  transport ICT technologies and share them among a wide variety of stakeholders.
