EACA launches call for entries for the Care Awards® 2011: Members of the European Parliament to judge Social Marketing Campaigns

Brussels 1 December 2010: The European Association of Communications Agencies has launched the call for entries for the EACA Care Awards 2011. These Awards for European Social Marketing Campaigns recognise excellence in promoting care for people, resources and the environment. They are part of the EACA’s overall commitment to promote Corporate Social Responsibility and are linked to the ACT Responsible online gallery and the ACT Responsible World Tour.

The EACA Care Awards 2011 are now open for entries until the 1st April 2011.

Pedestrian Crossings: A local challenge needing urgent attention Europe wide

One in five pedestrian crossings failed this year’s EuroTest pedestrian crossing assessment (EPCA). This result, the worst since testing started in 2008, starkly underlines the urgent need for improvement. Better accessibility, greater harmonization of rules governing the types of infrastructure (traffic light schemes, road markings etc) and behaviour at pedestrian crossings as well as more effective use of technologies are a must if safety is to be assured.

Verhofstadt congratulates Catalan party on election victory

Guy Verhofstadt, President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament today wrote to Convergencia i Unió Party leader, Artur Mas, to congratulate him on a stunning electoral victory last night in the Catalan national polls in which CiU took 38.5% of the vote which translates into 62 of the 135 seats in the parliamentary chamber. Although not an absolute majority, the result secures CiU as by far the largest party in Catalonia and will deliver the presidency of the Catalan Government to Artur Mas.

European Microfinance Week: Building Responsible Partnerships and sustainable practices in developing countries

EBE and EuropaBio hail EU Orphan Medicinal Products Regulation a success

Caritas Europa to the EU – Eradicate root causes of forced migration and make migration a safe option

A European Standard on halal food?

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) set up a Working Group to analyse the feasibility of a European Standard on halal food. Its first meeting was held late October 2010 by the Austrian Standards Institute in Vienna.
