At its meeting in Brussels on 27 November 2010, the Board of the Standing Committee of European Doctors adopted the following policy documents on tobacco and nicotine delivery products, professional qualifications, e-prescribing, task shifting, mental health in older people and the recognition of General Practice/Family medicine as unique specialty:

ECTA welcomes Vice-President Kroes’ plans to set guidance on regulated telco prices

Excessive wholesale charges are hampering affordable broadband and fibre investment, jeopardizing take-up of high-speed services

Brussels, 30 November 2010: Delivering the key note address at the 2010 ECTA regulatory conference this afternoon, Vice-President Kroes, Commissioner for the Digital Agenda, announced Commission action to issue guidance on setting wholesale telecoms charges and addressing discrimination by dominant firms.

EuropaBio’s first ever Most Innovative European Biotech SME Award has attracted an outstanding array of applications from 32 companies across 12 countries representing all sectors of the biotech industry.

With such stiff competition, the panel of judges faced a tough task to identify the top five entries from which the overall winner will be announced at EuropaBio’s event on the Role of Biotechnology in Europe’s Responsible Innovation, in Brussels on 9 December.  The winning applicant will receive a prize of €10,000 as well as two year’s free membership of EuropaBio.

Yesterday, at the European Microfinance Week 2010, the future of the microfinance sector was discussed, taking into account the backlash of the Indian Andhra Pradesh crisis. 382 participants, representing 285 organisations (NGOs, banks, investors, researchers, and development institutions) voiced their confidence in the future of microfinance, highlighting that the majority of microfinance institutions continue to practice responsible lending, contributing to financial inclusion and achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
