The regions of Europe at the forefront of green and intelligent technology

Project partners of ECREIN+ gathered this Monday, December 13, 2010 to discuss the possibilities for potential or existing financial instruments to support the development of eco-innovative companies in the European territory. The objective of ECREIN + is to explore how regions can create and implement effective policies to support eco-innovation and green business in their territories. 12 partners are working together in ECREIN +, including regional authorities, chambers of commerce and the AER.

Residence Permit and Work: The European Parliament rejected a second Bolkestein

Following the European Parliament vote on the application procedure for a single permit for residence and work for third country nationals, GUE/NGL MEP Patrick Le Hyaric (France) said: "I am pleased that the majority of MEPs have rejected a negative compromise with the European Council on this Directive. The plenary today said no to a bad compromise that was in the sole interest of the major companies and that would have put more workers from within the EU and outside of it in competition for work.

Protection, prevention and compensation for victims - Left backs EP human trafficking proposals

1. REMIT

The European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET)1 welcomes the draft proposal for a Regulation on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT) of the European Commission. This proposal aims to put in place a new EU regime for regulatory supervision of physically traded power and gas. It is an important first step towards ensuring a comprehensive market integrity framework for wholesale transactions, regardless of where in Europe they take place.

LIBERAL DEMOCRAT LUNCH SUMMIT

The ELDR Party, together with the liberal group in the European Parliament (ALDE) and the European Democratic Party, are hosting a lunch summit on Thursday 16 December with the liberal prime ministers, deputy prime ministers and commission vice president.

Deal in Cancún can lead to further progress

Bairbre de Brún MEP with the European United Left/Nordic Green Left Group in the European Parliament  has welcomed the progress made in Cancún, with the adoption of the Cancún Agreement, while warning that much work needs to be done if we are to see the necessary ambition and the necessary detail in the coming months.

Speaking as the deal was sealed at the UN Climate talks in Cancun, Ms de Brún said:

MEPs send letter in support of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev to Russian President Medvedev

A cross-party coalition of MEPs has used today's Human Rights Day (10 December) to send a letter to Russia's President Dimitry Medvedev, highlighting the ongoing persecution of Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev.

ALDE MEP Graham Watson (Liberal Democrat MEP, UK), who is leading the initiative to raise the profile of the Khodorkovsky-Lebedev trial, said:
