Student blogging competition kicks off build up to FFA2011

The Forum for the Future of Agriculture today kicked off the lead up to FFA2011 by launching a new blogging competition aimed at raising the voice of the next generation of leaders in the debate on the reform of the Common Agriculture Policy. Aimed at those studying agriculture and environmental policy, the competition will ensure that those who will live with the decisions made today on CAP reform will at least have their opinions heard.

PU Europe Applauds Parliament for Demanding Binding 20 % Savings Target

Today, the European Parliament adopted an own initiative report on the future EU Energy efficiency strategy to be tabled by the Commission in March 2011. The report calls on the EU to set a binding energy efficiency target of at least 20 % by 2020.

On the situation in Côte d'Ivoire

The European Parliament voted this morning on the situation in Côte d'Ivoire.

"We are all concerned about the severe political crisis affecting this country", said Elie Hoarau MEP (France) following today's European Parliament vote, "the decision of the Constitutional Court to challenge, in violation of election rules, the results of elections officially verified by the Independent Electoral Commission is unanimously condemned by the international community.

Verhofstadt rejects Merkel's false choice between competitiveness and Eurobonds

Reacting to comments from German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, today that Europe needs more convergence in economic policy and competitiveness rather than a market in Eurobonds, Guy Verhofstadt responded:

Brussels, 15 December 2010: Glass for Europe is delighted of the European Parliament’s overwhelming support to the report of MEP Bend Bendtsen on the revision of the Energy Efficiency Action Plan. In particular Glass for Europe welcomes the call for EU binding targets on energy-efficiency and for support mechanisms for building refurbishment.

EU TRAINING SCHEME - Applications welcome for 2011 EU Journalism Fellowship

Fondation EurActiv and the Robert Bosch Stiftung are launching an innovative journalist training program to help young journalists gain experience of European Union policies and online media. One week of training in Berlin, in cooperation with EurActiv Germany, will be followed by an internship with Fondation EurActiv. The winning journalists will spend up to ten weeks in Brussels on EU related assignments, the final week in Brussels planned to coincide with an EU summit. This will provide opportunities to participate in press conferences given by heads of state or government.

Eurobonds idea gaining in momentum as pressure on Merkel increases ahead of European Council
