The European Parliament adopted today a report on a "European initiative on Alzheimer´s disease and other dementias" which calls for concerted action not only in promoting awareness but also the need for public policies and concrete responses to this disability.

The main objective of the report is to give more serious recognition of the disease and its wide implications for families, carers and society at large. The report highlights the need to better ensure the quality of life through early and accurate diagnosis and thus reduce the number of people suffering.ries90.jpg

"The Euro is an essential pillar of the European construction and everything will be done to stabilise and strengthen it. This said, no-one is unaware of the seriousness of the situation that Europe is witnessing. That is why everything must be done in 2011 to restore market confidence, not in a superficial way but structurally - ie. by creating conditions for growth and employment in the long term," highlighted Joseph Daul in a debate on the Euro with Herman Van Rompuy.

Guy Verhofstadt, Liberal and Democrat group leader in the European Parliament, today outlined his assessment of the latest attempts to forge a consensus on economic governance in the EU, during a press conference and summarised in two short papers arguing for a "a new and global economic governance Master Plan" and a concrete proposal for the introduction of a system of Eurobonds.
