Facing the cyber-zombies – EU agency gets tough on Botnets

The EU’s ‘cyber security’ Agency, ENISA today published a comprehensive study on the botnet threat (networks of ordinary computers controlled by cybercriminals),and how to address it. The report looks at the reliability of botnet size estimates and makes recommendations for all groups involved in the fight against botnets. Alongside the main report the Agency sets out the top 10 key issues for policymakers in- ‘Botnets:10 Tough Questions’

Brussels, March 08, 2011 – The positive contributions of sugarcane ethanol in helping Brazil to diversify its energy matrix while protecting the environment and driving economic growth will be presented by the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) at the 2011 edition of the World Biofuels Markets event. The conference will take place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from 22 March to 24 March 2011.

The European Parliament today reiterated the call for the introduction of an EU-level financial transaction tax, as part of a report on innovative financing adopted by MEPs. The Greens have long called for the introduction of a financial transaction tax and welcomed the vote, with Green MEP Philippe Lamberts commenting:

Yesterday, the European Parliament debated a Resolution initiated by Alain Cadec MEP asking for a European strategy for the Atlantic region. The aim of this strategy is to take better account of the specificities of Atlantic territories through a European action plan.

Financial transaction tax - banking sector must cough up and pay its fair share

Calling a financial transaction tax (FTT) an urgent and necessary tool, German GUE/NGL MEP Jürgen Klute said it is imperative that the financial sector contributes to public coffers both in Europe and globally, and called on the Commission to come up with FTT proposals.
