The European Smart Metering Industry Group (ESMIG), representing the leading companies in the area of smart metering, welcomed the European Commission’s Communication on Smart Grids, but says that efforts in the area of smart grids have to be expedited if the EU is going to meet its 20-20-20 goals.

A referendum on the so-called ‘Icesave Agreement' was held in Iceland on Saturday, 9 April. The result of the vote was negative, with 58,9% of the population voting against the agreement concluded by the government with the Netherlands and the UK.

As repeated several times by the European Commission and the European Parliament, Icesave is a bilateral deal that bears no direct connection to Iceland's accession to the EU.
